A Message from Our Superintendent
The Tenino School District has had a fantastic start to the 2016-2017 school year. In September, we welcomed over 1,200 students back to our Tenino School District. For generations, the Tenino School District has been the educational home to students across our community, as well as a critical part of what makes our community a great place to live. To families whose students are entering our schools for the first time, a special welcome, and a sincere thank you for the trust you have placed in us.
The Tenino School District has a strong staff with a commitment to excellence. Our purpose is to provide each student the best education possible. To this end, every student in the district has access to a laptop computer or tablet. Middle and high school students have the option of taking the computers home with them each-day. In addition, we have added additional world language and honors programs at the high school and art at the elementary and middle schools.
This year each of our schools have fully implemented Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). PBIS is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional, and academic success. Research shows that school climate strongly influences students' motivation to learn and improve academic achievement. When school members feel safe, valued, cared for, respected, and engaged, learning increases. Essentially, a positive school climate provides the foundation on which instruction will occur and all students will learn, therefore, the implementation of positive behavior intervention techniques is paramount for our schools and students' success.
I am deeply grateful to serve Tenino students, staff, and community. I am extremely proud of our district, staff, students, and partners and hope you become involved in our schools and community.
Have a wonderful holiday season.
Joe Belmonte, Superintendent
